International Women's Day the 8th of March

international womens day speaking agency

The 8th March marks International Women’s Day across the year. Mômji takes a moment to pay tribute to our fantastic Language Ambassadors and look at why the work they do is so important for young girls in France.

What is International Women’s Day?

With roots all the way back to 1909 when the first Women’s Day took place in New York, it was in 1910 that International Women’s Day was set in stone as the 8th March by German revolutionary Clara Zetkin.

A flagpole day in the calendar for the continued feminist movement, it is celebrated across the world.

Teaching and baby sitters – the leading women

Here at Mômji, our mission is to pass on the gift of languages to children and curious adults alike. It’s a desire that many before us have shared too! Here are some famous female names who are leading lights in teaching.

Maria Montessori – It is Maria Montessori’s education method and scientific pedagogy that has been used for over 100 years all over the world to teach young children. From a young age, Montessori carried the feminist flame by enrolling in classes at an all-boys school to begin her career as an engineer.

Did you know? It’s Maria Montessori’s techniques that Mômji trains our Language Ambassadors in today, with the help of modern-day experts!

Malala Yousafzai – Known internationally as Malala, the activist campaigns for female education across the world. Malala is the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate. She started her campaigning as a young girl under a pseudonym online before escaping her country to take the fight onto the big scale.

Mary Poppins – Moving into the fictional, Mary Poppins is a magical English nanny who teaches the families of the households she visits a number of valuable lessons. First played by Julie Andrews, another inspiring woman, today Mary Poppins is a hugely loved character.

Nanny McPhee – A more modern version of the Mary Poppins character, Nanny McPhee is a hard-ruling nanny who wins the children around through a series of invaluable lessons.

Why our female Language Ambassador’s work is so important?

Here at Mômji, we are proud of the work that all of our Language Ambassadors do, whether they are male or female. On International Women’s Day, we look at the examples our female language teachers and nannies set for children in France.

Sharing passions –

A big part of the Mômji philosophy is that our employees share their passions and hobbies with French children.

For instance, a love for a sport such as football and rugby which has historically been male-dominated, can be passed on from one female Language Ambassador to the future generation.

This can also be applied to school subjects, hobbies and more!  In doing so, our employees can help to fight stereotypes and create a future, more equal world.

Help them become independent thinkers –

Helping children become confident young girls and independent thinkers is a fantastic act of female solidarity.

From their time with Mômji Language Ambassadors, young French girls can gain confidence that they can take into school and into their extra-curricular hobbies and make great personal growth.

Broaden young girls’ horizons with a foreign language -

Fundamentally, Mômji’s goal is to give the gift of a foreign language. Whether it be English, Spanish, Mandarin, Russian or more… learning a new language opens up a world of opportunities for young French girls. Not only are there better chances of employment in France, but also opportunities abroad.

On top of that, the ability to travel, make international friends and build a strong professional and social network are advantages that come from our female Language Ambassadors’ work.
