5 reasons why boys can be good at babysitting

five reasons why boys are good for babysitting

In the past, there used to be a real stigmatism around hiring boys as babysitters.

In fact, according to kidsit.com, only 3% of childcare professionals are males. However, in today’s society, it’s a trend that is fast being curbed.

Here at Mômji, we have families looking to employ passionate male babysitters and here are some reasons why!

Remember that you will develop valuable soft skills as a babysitter.

#1 Past attitudes are dying

The reason why male childcare workers were pretty much non-existent in the past is pretty simple – people just assumed men weren’t interested in babysitting!

Nowadays, society has wised up a lot.

Childcare is a rewarding job which allows babysitters to see the direct benefits of their work as children learn and grow thanks to what they do.

For example, here at Mômji, our English-speaking sitters endeavour to pass on their fluent language through everyday activities and our male employees frequently tell us how fulfilling it is!

#2 Being a natural caretaker is not gender-exclusive

The qualities that make a good babysitter are someone who is caring, attentive and switched-on.

These traits aren’t simply competences that apply to girls! All humans can develop them and, what’s more, some are naturally more inclined to exercise them. For those people, male or female, babysitting is a fantastic choice of job.

#3 Looking after young boys

Believe it or not, not all children are female!

There are, obviously, plenty of families with young boys who are seeking childcare. In such circumstances, it can be ideal for a male babysitter to be employed for the traits in common that are typically associated with men.

You could be a football fan and want to pass on your allegiances or take the child out for a kick-a-bout.

Or if you want to share your experiences growing up or chat about the child’s first crush when they go all giggly at the mention of a girl in their class, there are plenty male babysitters can have in common with the children!

#4 A ‘big brother’ figure

That’s not to say that male babysitters aren’t suitable to look after young girls. Not at all! In fact, some families who are missing a male presence (for example a single mother or a family with daughters whose dad must work late), look specifically to employ a man to provide this ‘big brother’ presence. It’s a big responsibility, but certainly a rewarding one too!

#5 With Mômji, you won’t be on your own

Got an interest in childcare? Thinking twice because, well, boys can’t possibly be babysitters! Given the female-lead history that babysitting has, it’s understandable. But you’d be wrong to do so.

Here at Mômji, we have thousands of job offers available across France… many of whom are male. And with our regular international socials and ‘soirées’, we bring everyone together so that no-one feels like they are on their own. Come along and meet other like-minded people!

Mômji is one of France’s top employers and we pride ourselves on our innovative approach to babysitting. If you speak English, Spanish, German or any other foreign language, we’d love to hear from you!
