Top 5 kinds of jobs for English-speakers in Paris

top jobs english speakers paris

If you’re an English-speaker in Paris, then there’s plenty of jobs out there for you. It’s all about knowing where to look.

That’s where Mômji can help. We work with thousands of internationals each year and help get their careers abroad started. Whether it be our speciality of babysitting and teaching or jobs in other domains, we’ve compiled a top five list of the kinds of jobs for English speakers in Paris

#1 Museum Jobs

There’s no city quite like Paris when it comes to museums. From longstanding attractions like The Louvre and Musée d’Orsay to the more modern establishments such as The Centre Pompidou and the Musée Picasso, there’s a lot going on.

These museums are hotspots for English-speaking tourists and so, naturally, in speaking English you stand a good chance of being employed. From part-time jobs around the museum to full-time employment in the organisation higher up (greater experience required for the latter), be sure to keep your eye on openings. Think outside of the box too. The Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay might be the first to come to mind, but there are around 130 museums in the capital so leave no stone unturned.

#2 Working in Tourism

There’s employment on offer in the tourism industry away from museums too. For a lot of English speakers, tour guiding is a great pathway to work. What’s more, if you genuinely love history and working with people, the job can be very fulfilling.

Plenty of companies run tours, whether it be boats on The Seine, on busses or on foot. These are often big business with a lot of staff on their books. Fat Tire Tours have recently opened for their 2020 intake (https://www.fattiretours.com/paris/employment). If you have a specialist knowledge or fancy working for yourself, you could also run your own walking tours through websites such as Airbnb, should you find your own niche.

#3 Bar Jobs

No matter where you are in the world, if you can pour a pint of beer, there’s probably a job for you!

Maybe not quite to that extent, but in Paris you certainly can. Down every street, you'll find an eatery or bar. Parisians are prepared to spend hours and a lot of money socialising on café terraces. Waiter jobs do require experience and qualifications in France, but bar work is less strict.

You don’t need too much French to work behind a bar but, if you prefer, there’s a good choice of English pubs too. Look for independent bars or check out renowned chains such as Café Oz.

#4 Teach English

As the most widely spoken language in the world, having a fluent level in English is a real asset – and it’s one Parisians want too! Whether it be professionals wanting to brush up their competency before going for a promotion, parents wanting their children to get better marks at school or an older person wanting a new challenge, there truly is plenty of interest.

Hundreds and hundreds of English speakers in Paris find jobs as teachers and pass on their language skills. Having past experience or a qualification such as TEFL will help you towards the better teaching posts. However, simple teaching jobs are accessible to all.

#5 Babysitting Jobs

Parents who work full-time in Paris can be expected to do long hours and often seek the help of babysitters to look after their children until they return home – especially on Wednesday afternoons when there is no school.

Childcare jobs are often part-time and babysitters may well take on more than one family to work with. As an English-speaker, some families may even prioritise hiring you over a French childminder in the hope that you might pass on a few choice pieces of vocabulary onto their children or simply broaden their horizons.

If you are an English speaker looking for the kind of job suitable for yourself in Paris, then we’d love to hear from you! Mômji offers thousands of part-time teaching and babysitting jobs that are paid, with flexible hours and close to your home.
