Finding a job for September

It's almost time to go back to school! You've got your class schedule, your apartment and you're embarking on a first or new year of higher education. Leaving the family nest will give you a new independence but also the financial burden that comes with this change. Mômji helps you in your search for a student job by answering all your questions and giving you the keys to succeed in this year of studies and part-time work

Why work alongside your studies?

In 2021, 4 out of 10 students were working on the side of their studies. There are many reasons to take a student job:

  •  wanting to gain work experience as soon as possible
  •  to finance their studies
  •  to support your independence

Do you have to pay for a course in a university, university fees or are you planning to go on a university exchange? You can't always rely on university scholarships or help from your parents

You may also want to enjoy your youth and make memories during your college years. The best experiences don't always cost money, but if you're planning a week-long vacation with your college friends in Spain during Spring Break or just want to dine out once in a while, a student job may be the answer

What kind of job?

Whatever your reason, you'll be looking for a very specific job or looking in an area that offers part-time contracts.

If you want to bring practical knowledge to your theoretical classes, then you can look for jobs specific to your studies.

If your priority is money, then you can look around for a contract as a waiter, baby-sitter, cashier, dog-sitter...

Your resume

Depending on the type of position you're looking for, your resume should reflect the experiences and/or skills you have in that field.

If you already know you want a job in the food industry, angle your resume towards that and highlight your previous experiences.

In 92% of cases, the work you do has nothing to do with your studies. However, you have the opportunity to start your career now!

Become a nanny and start your career in a meaningful sector. You will accompany the children in their personal development day by day.

Priority to your studies

Be careful! Wanting or needing a student job should not interfere with your studies!

Reconciling your studies with a student job can be difficult, especially if it is your first student job. Some contracts are designed for students but offer long hours, such as movie theater contracts, which can be 25 hours or more per week.

Your student job cannot be at the expense of your school hours. If possible, give preference to contracts of 16 hours or less.

Depending on your schedule, prioritize the hours during the week, so that you can have a real break on the weekend. This will allow you to keep your personal life, your professional life and your studies separate.

Good luck in your search!
