The Record of All the Best Student Jobs In France

Back to school is fast approaching and you are already looking for a student job for September? Whether it's your first time in the working world or you're looking to expand your horizons, Mômji shares its top student jobs, pros and cons and everything you need to know!

Working in a restaurant

A classic! Waiters, cooks and dishwashers are all familiar student jobs, and for a good reason: the offers are neverending. Whether it's at the family restaurant across the street or the neighborhood fast food joint, you'll be sure to start working quickly.

Pros:

In addition to being very well paid, generous tips from customers at restaurants add up at the end of the month! The hours go by quickly and many contracts offer hours only on weekends to accommodate students.

Cons:

You often come home with a bad back and blisters on your feet, especially at the beginning! It is a very tiring student job both physically and mentally

Babysitter in an agency

Seeing a child finally read a book by himself, teaching them a new language or sharing a common passion together, here are the daily tasks of a nanny in an agency! Meet the children at the end of school and accompany them towards the world of tomorrow!

Pros:

By being in an agency like Mômjiyou are better paid than in other agencies, your hours are flexible and you can find a job right next door. You can also take advantage of the many benefits of Mômji's partners, who offer you discounts on sports classes, shows and more!

Cons:

You need experience (formal or informal) in childcare beforehand, so you must love working with kids to be a nanny 😉

Selling at markets

No matter how big or small the city you are studying in, there is always a market with seasonal fruits and vegetables that brings the locals together early in the morning.

Pros:

The connection with customers makes it a really cool student job, which makes you want to talk to people and advise them on the best products! You'll also get to learn more than you think, including new negotiation skills that will become innate.

Cons:

Setting up booths early in the morning can sting for some who would rather sleep in! It can also be difficult to find a position without having a contact or without coming across an offer at the right time.

Night receptionist for hotels

Are you a night owl and your classes don't start until the afternoon? Many hotels are looking for students to handle check-ins for late travelers and to be able to help guests when a thermostat issue arises in the middle of the night!

Pros:

This is the perfect opportunity to practice your French or other foreign language with guests who will come to you for help or to check out early! You can also finish any homework or projects due during off hours.

Cons:

Loneliness and boredom can quickly add to your fatigue! Working nights is not for everyone and your schedule must be able to accommodate your well-deserved sleep after your shift.

Tutor

Are you bilingual, have a passion for math or an impressive ability to remember all the important dates in world history? Help the little ones become like you, by helping them with their homework and review before tests!

Pros:

Tutoring works very well by word of mouth, you can build a network easily. And if you work with an organization, you can get paid up to 15€ per hour!

Cons:

Your reputation is your resume! You must be serious and be someone parents can trust, who will be your biggest judges. Children can quickly become frustrated when they don't understand an exercise, so it is mandatory to always be patient and pedagogical.

Working in supermarkets

Many people's first student job was in retail, and especially in supermarkets! Being a cashier or doing inventory are often assignments given to students on weekends on contracts with a small volume of hours.

Pros:

Even if you only work about 20 hours a week, the pay is very attractive. Also, working in supermarkets doesn't necessarily mean being a cashier, you can also join the catering team or fish stand and impress your family at Christmas when it's time to open the oysters.

Cons:

You don't always realize it, but working in retail can be a very physical job and back, shoulder and wrist injuries are unfortunately common. Customers often favor speed and can sometimes be less than pleasant to students just starting out.

Petsitter

If you get along with animals better than humans, this is the job for you! When school starts, many families have to leave Spot and Clifford behind when they go to work, so they need someone for a few hours a day to keep them occupied and entertained.

Pros:

Compensation ranges from 6€ to 20€ per day per pet! Plus, you get to spend the day with the man’s best friend, what more could you ask for?

Cons:

A pet can be unpredictable, and you may find yourself cleaning the living room  carpet or picking up cat food off the kitchen floor. And if you're allergic, next
