How to boost your job search in Paris

You’re looking for a job in Paris? The French capital is best known for its history and grand landmarks but there are some great career opportunities too! Finding them, however, can prove very tricky indeed. It’s all about the know-how.

As a recruiter who generated more than 40,000 applications in 2017, Mômji knows how to find your perfect job. In this article, we give you some tips to kickstart your job search.

Speed!

One thing is for sure in Paris… jobs go quick! It may take you forever to find the opportunity and forever to hear back, but once the company has got the ball rolling you should act quick. A lot of internationals looking for work in France like to take the time to contemplate the role and make sure it is right for them – and it makes sense to be a bit nervous when arriving in a new country. However, the speed of Parisian life is very quick and if you’re after a job then you need to be hitting reply on that interview invitation email ASAP!

Networking

If you haven’t noticed yet, Parisians just love to chat. Often about nothing at all, but sometimes you can come across a friend of a friend who needs someone to do some temporary work for them but is struggling to find applicants, for example. This technique may not seem all too ‘official’, but it is a way through the back door. Be sure to socialize with people in Paris, whether it be through Meet Up groups, sports events or just being brave enough to smile at someone new in a bar!

Did you know that here at Speaking Agency we have a huge international community for you to meet people and make friends. Our regular socials in the capital bring everyone together in the Speaking-Factory for a catch up! Want to join the Language Ambassador team? APPLY NOW

French CV

Another simple factor that can help in a job search in Paris is getting your CV right. Even for jobs in English, being able to produce a French version of you CV if necessary shows determination and drive to work to the maximum. It can be a bit of a painful process to translate, but with plenty of advice and help online, is definitely possible to do!

Know where to look

Jobsites

Looking for jobs in Paris is clearly different looking for jobs anywhere else. Every country has its popular websites and job boards to come across openings. In Paris, the likes of Craigslist, MeteoJob, CornerJob, JobAviz and Jooble are all hugely popular platforms, with many more out there too. Why not switch your search engine into French to be sure to catch them all?

FB Groups

Especially helpful when looking for part-time or student work, social media is a strong force in the job search game. A simple search on Facebook can bring up a hatful of groups to join, and in them all are plentiful opportunities. Social media might not be the first place you think of going to follow your professional ambitions, but it should be!
