Fontainebleau
Fontainebleau is a town south of Paris, so you can take the Transilien rail line from Paris for the day. There are several attractions to explore in Fontainebleau such as the Palace of Fontainebleau and the Fontainebleau forest.
Château Versailles
The Château Versailles is one of the most famous palaces in the world, but did you know that you can also explore the town of Versailles and even get into part of the Versailles gardens for free. You can find a map online to show where you can go in the gardens for free. Versailles is easy to get to as it is a major tourist attraction, all you need to do is take the RER C to Versailles- Château.
The Château Vaux-Le-Vicomte
The Château Vaux-Le-Vicomte was bought by Nicolas Fouquet in 1641 who renovated the Château. This lead to his downfall as he was arrested by the King in 1661. The architects who helped design the château, Le Vau, Le Brun and Le Nôtre were hired by the King to design Versailles. You can now visit the Château, explore the palace and gardens. You can take a direct train from Paris Gare de l’Est with Line P, direction Provins to the Verneuil l’Etang station.

Giverny
Although not in Île-de-France, Giverny can be reached quite easily from Paris. The biggest attraction in Giverny is Claude Monet’s house which has been transformed into a museum for his work. Here you can explore his gardens which were the inspiration behind some of his most famous artworks. There is also a Museum of Impressionism that you can visit. You can get to Giverny by train from Paris Saint Lazarre Station.
