Best summer events for students in Paris

Paris’ summer heat is really starting to shift up through the gears and, as we enter August, there’s plenty going on in the French capital to keep you entertained. Don’t be stuck on what to do - the team at Mômji looks through the best events and activities on offer for students this month…

Paris Plages, all August – student sunbathing in the city...

Paris Plages

When it’s this hot, what better to do than head to the beach? In Paris, there’s not even any need to travel far! Wander over to the Parc Rives de Seine and the La Villette canal basin for a swim, try your hand at some water sports, lay back on a deck chair and grab an ice cream from a

kiosk. It’s all the luxury and conveniences of a summer holiday, right under your nose in the city centre!

Gay Games, 4th-12th August – there’s plenty sports to see in Paris this summer...

Gay Games

2018 may not be an Olympic year, however there are still plenty of sporting events happening around the city. Leading the way is the Paris 2018 Gay Games.

The Gay Games have taken place since 1982 and aims to bring “together people from all walks of life, without discrimination, around the values of diversity, respect, equality, solidarity, and sharing”. The events are open to all, no matter what sexuality and, often, sporting level too – although entry to events has now closed. Nonetheless, be sure to see some of the 10317 participants across 36 sports and 14 cultural events. Information about all the sports, locations and how to watch can be found on the organiser’s website.

Rock en Seine Festival, 24th-26th August – what better for a student than a music festival?

Liam Gallagher

One of Paris’ most infamous festivals is back again this August and has a killer line-up too! PNL, Thirty Seconds To Mars and Justice headline the three days respectively, whilst the likes of Macklemore, Post Malone, SG Lewis and Liam Gallagher are all on the bill too.

Rock en Seine takes place towards the south-west of Paris, near Boulogne Billancourt, and can be reached by both Metro and RER. Tickets are still available on the Rock en Seine official website!

Open-Air Cinema Festival, Parc de la Villette, 1st-19th August – kick-back and watch a movie under the stars...

Open Air Cinema

If you haven’t made the most of Parc de la Villette’s Open-Air Cinema Festival so far this summer, be sure to do so before its closure on the 19th August.

Situated in the 19th arrondissement, just a little further out from the centre than the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, the large park is known for its summer events and beautiful lawns.

In terms of the films, highlights this August include Jean-Luc Godard’s Pierrot le Fou on 5th August, Pedro Almodóvar’s Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! on the 11th and Jacques Demy’s The Umbrellas of Cherbourg to close the festival on the 19th.

Row in the Bois de Vincennes – rent a boat in a classic Parisian park...

Bois de Vincennes

During the Summer, spending some time exploring the many parks of Paris is a must! At the Bois de Vincennes you can do just that by renting a small row-boat on the picturesque lake. Rentals are available every day from 10am until 8pm and cost €13 an hour for two people.

A lap of the lake takes around 45 minutes, pets are allowed on board and there are no reservations – so dander down whenever.
