Best time to play games:
When deciding to play a game with children, it is a good idea to ask yourself a few questions. Such as “Is this an outside or inside game” or “Is it better to play with the kids at the table or in the salon?”. Most games can be adapted to your surroundings and what materials you have on hand. The most useful thing to know is what you are doing next as children can change their mind in an instant or not want to play what you have prepared. So it is always good to have a backup game.
Hangman
This classic game can help kids improve their spelling as well as reaffirming their knowledge of the English alphabet. Using a pen and a piece of paper, think of a word, that is age appropriate and get the kids to suggest letters to create the word. You can start with words the children already know or use it to help them learn everyday words.
Pictionary
This game is great for kids that have trouble spelling. Grab a pen and some paper, start by creating flashcards you can use words for things that the children use everyday or something in the house. Start with 10 flashcards, then you can split into teams, using your phone as a timer, start with 1 minute then have one child at a time draw the word and the other team tries to guess the word. The team with the most correct answers wins.
Globe
Using a globe can be a great way to learn general knowledge as well as having fun. Using a globe or atlas, start asking the child questions. It is better to start off easy such as “What language do people speak in France?” and gradually getting harder. You can create any question that you want, whether it is about geography, languages or culture. This is also a great way to share your culture, and information about where you come from with the children.
